Established in 1928, the Druids Cricket Club has a proud history of off-field community leadership, on field premiership success, and a great friendly family atmosphere. We have steadily built our player and supporter base since moving to our current location in West Footscray in 2011. We now have more than 200 registered participants playing each week.
The Druids are affiliated with:
Our home ground is Kevin Shorten Reserve, Corner Market Street and Essex Street in West Footscray. Many of our junior teams also play at nearby local venues including:
Playing from our home ground at Kevin Shorten Reserve, the Druids have four Senior Men’s teams playing in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VCTA) competition. With a First XI premiership win and T20 champions in season 2018/19, the Druids were promoted into the VTCA’s Senior Division in season 2019/20, where we remain.
Our four VTCA Senior Men’s teams for season 2020/21 were:
Our 1stand 2ndXI’s play a mixture of one day (40 overs) and two day (80 overs) cricket on Saturday afternoons from October through to March.
Our 3rdand 4thXI’s play in a one day (36 over) competition on Sunday afternoons from mid-October to mid-February. These teams provide opportunities for a range of ability levels, and best suit those wishing to improve their skills, players returning to cricket from some time out, junior players looking to transition into senior cricket and parents / junior coaches who are looking for a little time in the middle themselves.
An additional senior team and an inaugural women’s team are planned for the 2021/22 season.
The Druids have fast become the destination club for girls in Melbourne’s inner west. Our girls program commenced in season 2017/18 and has grown to include more than 40 girls in season 2020/21. In addition to girls only teams, we have many girls also playing in our mixed U11 and U13 teams.
A fun, supportive and nurturing environment and culture has seen our program be highly sought after, and it has produced many Western Region representative players in the U12, U14 and U16 age groups over the past three seasons. We also have Level 1 & 2 female cricket coaches delivering the girls program.
